The 2008 Southampton Council election took place on 1 May 2008 to elect members of Southampton Unitary Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party gained overall control of the council from no overall control. After the election, the composition of the council was *Conservative 26 *Labour 14 *Liberal Democrat 8 ==Background== After the 2007 election the Conservative party took control as a minority administration after one Liberal Democrat councillor, Norah Goss, broke with her party to support the Conservatives.
